Recent joys to praise God for:

I became an auntie for the first time- praise God for Joel Daniel Emptage, born on 18th May 2009!
I spent a lovely few days in Dublin this week with a close friend, soaking in the art in different galleries, the poetry of Yeats, the fun of the literary pub crawl and the yummy Irish cider drank whilst bobbing along to some Irish jigs.
I am learning how to dance salsa ;)
I am learning how to pray better and enjoy the things in life He has given me, whilst remembering the far greater things to come!

Many are the times I've felt hurt
Countless are the times I've been healed.
Many are the times a tear has fallen from my eyes
Countless are the times he's been patient with my cries.
Many are the times my heart has wandered away
Countless are the times he has pulled it back and held it.
Many are the times my words have been laughed at
Countless are the thoughts in which he consideres me.
Many are the times I've been ignored, isolated
Countless are the times he's attended to me in his hands.

Many are the times I've forgotten his promises
Countless are the times he's reminded me of the truth.
Many are the times my love for him has grown cold
Ceaseless is his unfailing love for me.
Many are the times I've lack contentment
Limitless is the joy he alone freely gives.
Costly are the times I've struggled to prize him
Priceless are the blessings he has bestowed upon me.
Many are the times I've failed to look to him
Endless are the days in which I will cherish his face.

"Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame" Psalm 34:5

I will myself to look above
when frustrations frenzy me,
when disappontments despair me,
when situations stone me.

I will myself to look above
when fears shiver and shake me,
when desires deceive and break me,
when my dreams become idols.

I will myself to look above
when friends frequently flatter me,
when pride pursues and tempts me,
when longings lure and enslave me.

And still I need to will myself to look above
when my busy life is fun,
and when I'm resting in the sun.
Only by your grace my affection's drawn up
and my heart for you is won.

Bind My Heart
Bind my heart as it tries to wrestle
and with ear-plugs in it ignores
Your glorious whispers and loving attention.
And it craves its own cheering crowd in the stalls.

Bind my heart as it flutters and fails,
and with blinkers on it fools itself to see
one smile from him become a big white dress.
It automatically forgets Your greater caress.

Bind my heart as it turns itself cold.
With a frozen tongue bitter olives become grapes.
With sand-paper fingers it fails to feel, and imagines Your gifts as smooth as marble are fake.

Please bind my heart that is prone to wander.
Undeceive its senses and teach it more of Your grace.
Help it in Your strength to remember
it is lovingly bound to Christ, and belongs in a far better place.
